Sample Letter
A question that I get asked a lot is "What do I say in my letter?" Well, I decided
to include a sample letter for everyone to use as a reference. Here is the letter that I use:
Dear Mr. Maddux,
Hi, my name is Will
and I am a huge fan of yours and the Chicago Cubs. I think that you are a fantastic pitcher that brings a lot to the Cubs
ball club. I think that your skills and leadership can help lead the Cubs to a World Series Championship. Anyways, another
reason that I was writing to you today was in hopes that you would please take the time to sign my baseball cards that I have
enclosed. I have also included a SASE that you may use if you would like to respond. Thank you very, very much for taking
the time to read my letter and I wish you luck the rest of this year and in the rest of your career. GO CUBS!!!
A Huge Fan,

And that's that! Again, this is just what I write. Your letter does not have to
match mine exactly, or at all for that matter. Another question I get asked a lot is whether it matters if you send a typed
letter or a hand written letter. I send out handwritten letters and typed letters, and I don't think that most players care
which kind of letter you send. |
Key tips to writing your letter!
1. Always say please and thank you and if the athlete or celebrity that you are writing to doesn't sign anything for
you, don't hold a grudge against them, they are very busy.
2. ALWAYS include a SASE (self addressed stamped envelope). Athletes usually don't have time to address the envelope
and then scramble for a stamp.
3. Don't send the athlete/celeb. 5 things to sign, they won't have time to do that. You have to realize that they probably
get hundreds of fan mail letters, and they won't have time to sign all of your items. Send one or two and then they will probably
sign them.
4. Keep the letter short and sweet, don't write the athlete/ celeb. 5 pages on why you like them so much, 1 paragraph
will do!
